Lavina Harless, LCSW, is senior director of examination services for the Association of Social Work Boards, where she oversees development and administration of the social work licensing examinations used in the United States and Canada. Her responsibilities include the coordination of more than 150 volunteers, consultants, paid item writers, and staff, as well as the management of several examination-related contractors. In 2022, Harless led efforts that resulted in ASWB’s publication of examination pass rate data as a demonstration of the association’s commitment to data-driven conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion. She is now overseeing work to collaborate with the social work profession to find short- and long-term solutions to the challenges revealed by the data analysis. Harless has authored articles for the Institute for Credentialing Excellence, The New Social Worker and Social Work Today. Before joining ASWB, she served as the clinical director at a psychiatric residential treatment facility for children. Harless earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from Radford University.
